The X-Men Author At His Best
Author Chris Claremont gained comic-e-book fame for his 17-year stint writing the X-Men and its companion books, but a few of his earliest work was on Iron Fist, beginning with Marvel Premiere No. 24. He would develop the character of Iron Fist and the comic’s supporting cast over the next few years, even having Iron Fist’s girlfriend Misty Knight room with the X-Men’s Jean Gray.
Over the course of the stories he would have Iron Fist query how one can be a hero, asking himself such sensible questions as what does a superhero do with his civilian clothes when he adjustments into costume. He also was very robust in developing Misty Knight and Colleen Wing over the course of the sequence, with Misty rising into the position of Iron Fist’s girlfriend in a mature and lifelike approach over time. Claremont would later acquire acclaim for creating strong females in his X-Males tales as well.

Before X-Males There was Iron Fist!
Comedian guide artist John Byrne, who could also be best known for his work on the Uncanny X-Men, had celebrated runs on such comics as Unbelievable 4, Captain America, Alpha Flight, the Sensational She-Hulk and plenty of others, as well as a revamped Superman.
But some of this earliest work was on Iron Fist, and it was sensational. I remember being actually impressed by the action scenes that seemed to flow so naturally, and that i loved the way he drew Captain America in Iron Fist No. 12. In that situation (contained in this Marvel Essential quantity) Captain America is constructed as solidly as a Sherman tank in contrast to Iron Fist, who appears so far more lithe. Getting this book is worthwhile just to get pleasure from Byrne’s artwork.
”You are Iron Fist”
An Experiment in Writing
One of the more attention-grabbing issues about the early Iron Fist stories is that they were written in the second-individual narrative, which is way less common than first person or third person. From the first page of his debut (see accompanying illustration, taken from this Marvel Important volume) through most of the tales in this quantity the captions are addressed to Iron Fist.
“You are Iron Fist. You stand tensely…” his premiere appearance begins. It was an intriguing strategy, and whereas I had seen it achieved in some one-shot tales, primarily in horror and conflict comics, I don’t remember it being quite common amongst superhero tales within the 1970s. Something to keep in mind if you read the tales.
The Marvel Important Series
The Marvel Essential collection reprints lots of Marvel Comics’ stories from the 1960s on in giant volumes that often prime several hundred pages. The collection started in 1997 with the publication of the Essential X-Men No. 1 and The Essential Spider-Man No. 1.
Many of the volumes have been printed more than as soon as, with totally different covers on some of them, so do not let that throw you off when buying. Fastidiously test to ensure which volume quantity you’re contemplating.
The massive benefit to these volumes is cost: a reader can get 30 or more tales for about what a half dozen new comedian books cost, and the old tales have extra pages of motion per difficulty. The Essentials books are way more price-efficient than shopping for all the unique comics as effectively.
